After a long, fun weekend of the Harvard Brown football game and my brother visiting Providence, I was exhausted and had gotten none of my schoolwork done. So naturally, I figured what better way to spend my Sunday night than going to Boston for a concert with friends. I bought tickets to the Phoebe Bridgers concert in Boston on pre-sale back in July, and I had really been looking forward to seeing her perform since then. The concert exceeded my high expectations and definitely made avoiding all of my responsibilities worthwhile.

When I first bought the tickets, the concert was supposed to happen at an indoor venue in Boston. However, Bridgers decided in August to move the remainder of her tour to outdoor venues, citing the spread of the Delta variant. The Boston show was at Leader Bank Pavilion, which was a really fun place for a concert. Even though the concert was outdoors, it felt pretty intimate because the pavilion was fairly small. The weather was perfect the night of the concert, but the venue would hold up in the rain if needed because all the seating is covered. Located right in Boston’s Seaport neighborhood, there’s plenty of good restaurants and bars to check out before seeing a concert!

The opener for Bridgers was a band called MUNA. They play indie pop/rock music, and I really enjoyed their set at the concert. Their music was a great lead-up to Bridgers’ performance. During MUNA’s performance, Bridgerseven came onto stage to sing with them for their new song that she’s featured on called “Silk Chiffon.” Everyone in the crowd went crazy when Bridgers came on stage to perform the song with MUNA, and then everyone got even more excited about twenty minutes later when she came out again to perform her music.

Bridgers’ set was incredible. Seeing her live reminded me of her talent as a lyricist, since she writes all of her music herself. I was also impressed by how good her voice sounded live. There are a lot of artists that sound much better in their recorded music because of factors like autotune, but Bridgers sounded just as good as she does in her recorded music, if not better. The band that played with her was also very talented and added a lot to the show. I would definitely see Phoebe live again.

The atmosphere of the concert was not only very fun but also different from any other concert I’ve ever experienced. There were a number of fans dressed in skeleton costumes and merch since Bridgers’ trademark outfit is a skeleton costume. A lot of funny signs were scattered throughout the crowd that caught her attention. One of my favorites said “Should I date a Scorpio?” Bridgers unfortunately didn’t give an answer.

Overall, Phoebe Bridgers was a great performer, and Leader Bank Pavilion was an awesome place to see a concert. I was so drained from my weekend last Sunday and far from being in the typical concert mood, but I am so glad that I decided to go because of how great the show was. The work I avoided that night caught up to me this week, but it was totally worth it for the concert.
