My professor, who teaches Creative Writing gave us an assignment to write a poem about where we are from. Physically, mentally, emotionally, and the overall details that makes us who we are today. This here is my poem:
I am from the good ol’ United States of America.
From the City of Boca Raton, Florida, the sunshine state.
I am from the beautiful one story house that looks beautiful with warm colors.
I am from the place where adventures happen.
From the parties.
And from tons of social interaction.
I am from the place where there are a dozen sunflowers.
The most beautiful group of sunflowers you would ever see.
I’m from a wonderful Jewish family.
And their loving spirit from my father Fredrick ad my mother Lisa.
I’m from a family of many different sides.
One side has tons of obstacles.
And the other side has stability.
From the place to always have thick skin.
And to talk things out when there is a situation at hand.
I’m from ultimate possibilities.
And ultimate triumph.
I’m from the constant disagreements of both sides of my family about how to conduct life.
From latkes and couscous.
From the amazing history of my family going back from generation to generation.
Tracing my roots back to Europe and the Middle East.
I am from the place of my home, where the heart is.
