What to Watch to De-Stress During Exam Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bristol chapter.

With exam season approaching, it is important to remember to take time for yourself and to relax. You don’t need the added pressure of finding the right show to watch during this stressful enough period. So, if you’re looking for something to watch when you don’t have much time or energy, then these are my top five shows for you!

  1. Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Glitch Man
Giphy

This police procedural sitcom comes with seven seasons and tonnes of entertainment. The show centres around Detective Jake Peralta and his team in Brooklyn as they face tough cases and personal issues. Each episode is around 20 minutes which makes it the ideal show to watch during a study break. If you are looking for something comedic and light-hearted, this is the show for you.  Nine Nine!

  1. Modern Family

Another sitcom for you! Modern Family takes a mockumentary style approach and centres around three families in Los Angeles as they tackle the daily challenges life throws at them. Just like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the episodes are around 20 minutes which is perfect for when you’re getting ready in the morning or wanting to unwind before bed. Just put your favourite episode on and relax.

Available to watch on: Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+

  1. Gavin and Stacey

This comedic British sitcom (are you seeing the pattern here?)  focuses on the love tale between Gavin, an Essex boy, and Stacey, a Welsh girl as they prepare to meet in London for the first time after speaking on the phone for months. Each episode is around 30 minutes which makes it just the right length to watch over dinner or during a study break. It’s cracking!

  1. Below Deck

Looking to escape reality and dream of being in a hot foreign country instead? Below Deck is the ideal reality series for you. The show records the lives of crew members working abroad on superyachts during a charter season. It highlights how they deal with difficult guests, personal issues and working with each other. Trust me, there is plenty of drama to keep you entertained for 45 minutes in the evening!

Available to watch on: Netflix, Hayu

  1. The Bold Type

This has become my new obsession. The comedy-drama series focuses on the lives of three women who work for a magazine called Scarlett in New York City. The show balances current issues, friendship and drama extremely well and takes its inspiration from the life of the former editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan magazine, Joanna Coles. This show is excellent at demonstrating what can happen when you work and study hard- it is a great form of motivation.
