We can’t deny that 2020 was a rough year. It has been a year of a pandemic, Australia’s fires, and other natural disasters… something that could be the synopsis of an apocalyptic Hollywood movie. As we welcome the new year, here are some of the good things that happened this past year, so we have something good to feel about.

  • This 2020 was the epitome of the Black Lives Matter movement. Although fighting for justice shouldn’t ever be necessary, in 2020 this became the biggest US history movement ever as thousands of people went on the streets for to fight for what they deserve: equity.
  • The CoVid Vaccine was developed in just 11 months, a process that normally takes 10 years.
  • Argentina legalized abortions.
  • Africa is officially polio-free.
  • Costa Rica finally legalized same sex marriages, becoming the first country in South America to do so.

  • USA and China have successfully launched missions to Mars.

  • NASA has confirmed the existence of water on the Moon.

  • Kamala Harris became the first female, person of colour to become vice president od the United States.

  • Air pollution has improved due to much travel being cancelled.

  • Scotland became the first country to provide free access to period products.

  • More Coal power plants have closed than have opened.

  • Scientists in the US have created an enzyme that dissolves plastic that used to take years to disappear from our environment.

Maybe we didn’t pay much attention to these events because we were dealing with a global pandemic, or because we were busy with online university. However, although this year has been a challenging one, let’s celebrate we #SurvivedTo2020 !
