With Christmas and New Years parties not long behind us, and Valentines Day just come and gone, I feel like we’ve all been having a bit of a fling with a Bold Statement Lip. A glamorous red, a deep plum or a bright coral colour can indeed be very tempting if you’ve got a party planned as they sure pack a punch. But as much as I love my bold lips… I feel like this love affair is in danger of becoming a little too high maintenance. I’m often left wondering whether I’ve got red smears on my front teeth, whether I’ve got lipstick stains on my sleeve, or if my lipstick has dissipated completely and all I have left is a purple ring of liner round my lips. However much I enjoy the fling, I feel like when push comes to shove, I want to come back home to the true unsung hero of the tale: the Everyday Pink.

My favourite three out of the sea of everyday pinks.

Although the fling might be exciting every so often, it’s the Everyday Pink lipsticks that are always there for you, rain or shine, always kicking around at the bottom of your handbag, and always a staple in my everyday look. There is absolutely no effort required for these natural and nude colours. From peachey undertones, to beigey hues, to soft pinks, these everyday shades are ones that you can apply with no mirror and still know that they’ll brighten up and complement your look.

Left to right: Mac Patisserie, Mac Angel, Clarins lipgloss. I know they all (especially the two Mac’s!) look almost identical… But I felt the need to rave about each of them!

Here’s a rundown of my favourites:

Left to right: Mac Patisserie, Clarins gloss, Mac Angel. See?! I told you they all look different… Okay, maybe they are slightly more identical than I want to admit…

  • Mac Lipstick in shade Angel

This is the most pink pink I have to offer, and I find myself wearing it almost every day. It’s a wash of cool pink, with slightly bluey undertones that make your teeth appear ever so slightly whiter as well! It’s quite thick and pigmented, but is still sublimely subtle. This is the one you want when you want to feel girly, but requires absolutely zero effort.

  • Clarin’s Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in shade 04

A little expensive for a gloss, I know, but this is so much more than your typical lipgloss. It packs a little wash of colour, but this light pink shade just adds the most beautiful sheen to the lips, and is something I always find myself reaching for and having near panic attacks when I can’t get my hands on it. I know the picture makes it look kind of gross (I have had it for quite a while), and some people might freak out at the sponge applicator, but I really like the way it applies the product to the lips. The formula is a dream, it’s not sticky and just feels like a balm on the lips to me, but delivers that touch of complimentary pink.

  • Mac Lipstick in shade Patisserie

Another Mac addition to the list. This one is a lustre formula, which means that’s it a lot more sheer than the pigmented frost finish of “Angel”, and delivers a lot more moisture to parched lips. It’s a beautiful soft peachey pink, which is insanely easy to wear, very shiny but not as balmy or glossy as the offer from Clarins, and looks as cute as it’s namesake sounds.

Let’s give it up for the unsung heroes – the Everyday Pinks!
