Brenau University held it’s very first Spring Recruitment Jan. 29-30. The sororities were excited and nervous to see how things were going to go. At the beginning there was a lot of debate about whether it would actually go as planned due to a low amount of girls signed up. Fortunately, more girls decided to participate in the Greek Community and registered for the weekend’s events.

Going into Recruitment, house total (the maximum amount of girls each chapter can have) was set at 26. At this time only, one house was at house total. This factor is what sparked the interest of creating a spring recruitment.

Usually in the Fall, recruitment would consist of three or four days of events. On the first night, Potential New Members (PNM’s) would attend every house during the allotted time given. On the second night they would only attend four and the third night would be their Preference day. Girls are invited back to one or two houses on preference and these are the ones that they consider the most carefully. The next event is called Bid Day, when the girls receive their bids and run out to their new sisters in the amphitheater.

For this (Spring) recruitment it was a lot different. PNM’s only got one night to experience all the houses and make a decision. The next day, Preference was in the morning and Bid Day was in the afternoon.

House total was raised to 29 members and quota was set at 3. Quota is the number of girls who could potentially receive a bid to each sorority. Although not all the houses received quota, they were pleased and excited to welcome their new members into their new home that afternoon. After Run Out, the chapters each host a celebration to make the new members feel special and welcome.

Spring Recruitment was a blast and as a sorority member, I can say we are so excited to see what our new members bring to our chapters.
