Why You Should Consider a Menstrual Cup

Let’s run through a typical day in the life of a college student…. Oh right, it doesn’t exist. On any given day, you have a million and one things to do, and the last thing you want to be worrying about is, am I leaking?

Solution: A mensturual cup!

For example, the Diva Cup. The Diva Cup is a healthcare grade silicone menstrual cup worn in the place of tampons and pads. Shaped like a bell, the 30 ml cup is large enough to catch one full menstrual flow (the average woman flows approximately 30-60 ml per cycle), however it should only be worn up to 12 hours at a time. That’s 12 hours leak free, including overnight and while exercising, allowing you to carry out your hectic day sans the stress of your period.

After you insert the Diva Cup, forget about it! It will soften with body heat, meaning it’ll comfortably mold to your body. Every time you take it out, simply wash (with either baby soap or Diva Cup’s own cleanser) and reinsert it.

Some sources claim the Diva Cup lasts 5 or more years, however Diva Cup recommends buying a new one every year or so. Either way, at $25 a cup, that’s a decent amount of money you are saving on other menstrual products.

Try a menstrual cup. Period.
