The Search for Franco Garcia

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

Have you seen him? Franco Garcia is much like many of us. He studies chemistry at Boston College and plays
clarinet in the symphonic band and trombone in the marching band. He’s a certified pharmacy technician at a CVS in Waltham and lives with his parents in West Newton. The books above his bed contain titles such as “The Great Gatsby,” “The Da Vinci Code,” and the Harry Potter series. He has two younger siblings, a brother and a sister. A month ago, Franco Garcia was a normal college student. Two weeks ago, he went missing.

The 21-year-old Boston College student was last seen in the early morning hours of February 22nd after a night out with friends at Mary Ann’s Bar in Cleveland Circle. At 12:18 a.m., he was walking alone towards the campus according to nearby Citizens Bank security camera footage. His cellphone’s last activity was at 1:15 a.m. His car remains parked where he left it.

Last Sunday, his family held a vigil at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in East Boston after days of unsuccessful searching. Members of the state police spent four days last week investigating the Chestnut Hill Reservoir, but found nothing. A private investigator hired by the family is also searching the BC area with a bloodhound, so far, with no results. Although there is currently no evidence of foul play, the possibility has not been ruled out completely.

A Facebook ‘missing’ advertisement posted by singer Bruce Springsteen, whose son attends Boston College, has been shared on over 1,700 walls and “liked” by about 2,500 people. Residents of nearby areas and students of local colleges have been put on alert.
