FALL FASHION GO-TOS

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

For those of you who have never lived in New England before, get ready for a crazy fall and winter! This area is infamous for it’s bizarre weather patterns- one day there will be a blizzard and the next feels like spring. One word, layers. Not only will layers be immensely helpful on the fall days that start below freezing and become humid by mid day, but in the winter layering is the best way to stay warm.. These items will work in either season and can endure all of the New England weather!

1)    Sweaters.

These are perfect for chilly fall days. And when winter hits, throw a coat over it. My favorites are Zara’s cable knits. They’re so warm, and mix European style with comfort.

2)    Scarves.

Scarves can be used as fashion statements to necessary attire as the temperature drops. My theory is the bigger the scarf the better! Whether it’s an infinity scarf or giant pashmina- it doesn’t matter, as long as it’s warm!   http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/category.jsp?id=W_ACC_SCARVES#/

3)    Skirts

Wear them with or without tights depending on the temperature. My favorite way to wear skirts is with thick knit leggings, like these from Hatley.

4)    Dresses.

It’s easy to throw a sweater and a coat on over a dress in the winter (and add tights!). But long sleeve dresses (especially sweater dresses) are a necessity because they work in such a variety of temperatures.

5)    Leggings.

Nothing in this world is more comfortable then wearing leggings! Wear them with tall socks and boots. It works for either season.

6)    Socks.

Socks are the best for all temperatures!!

7)    Boots.

If you buy nothing else to prepare for a New England winter, buy Bean Boots. L.L. Bean handcrafts these amazing boots one at a time up in Maine. They’re waterproof, and super warm. They are the best to wear in the rainy fall, snowy winter and even into the slushy spring!

There’s no way around buying coats, hats, and gloves for winter. But everything here can be worn from Fall straight through Winter. They might even last well into the spring months as well.
