St. Patrick’s Day Mocktails

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bradley U chapter.

Bored of going to parties and only drinking water while your friends enjoy something alcoholic? Well search no longer because we have a perfect solution to your non-alcoholic cravings. Cool, refreshing and a fabulous alternative to an alcoholic drink. I can guarantee that this will get you through your week. Mocktails are all the rage lately, and it is time to follow the trend. It is the season of green, gold, leprechauns and — most importantly — mocktails. This list will be your guide to a happy, non-alcoholic holiday this year.

Leprechaun Champagne

Recipe:

  • 5 oz sparkling white grape juice
  • 1 oz of Torino’s non-alcoholic creme de menthe

This simple mocktail champagne is one of my favorites; it has two ingredients and is very easy to make. It was a definite hit with my little cousins, just be careful of the sugar rush! If you are not a sugar person I would recommend replacing the juice with your favorite sparkling water. A little tip is to put the glasses in the freezer and then put the ingredients in. This gives the champagne illusion more enticing and excites the senses.

Skipping Mojitos

Recipe:

  • ½ cup basil leaves
  • ½ cup lime juice
  • 2 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • Honeydew melons, cubed
  • Sparkling water

A mojito is a classic in the cocktail community — and is even better as a mocktail. It is refreshing and my go to when I don’t want anything sugary. The St. Patrick’s Day vibe comes from the green of the melons and basil. For an instagram worthy mocktail, you can even scoop the melons into balls and freeze them to create delicious ice. If you are looking for a sweet taste but a little healthier, I recommend adding agave syrup instead of sugar.

Pot of gold

Recipe:

  • Pineapple juice
  • Lime juice
  • Cut kiwis and granny smith apples
  • Raw honey
  • Ginger beer

This juice based mocktail is a perfect refresher to your day and has mostly natural ingredients that will keep you going longer. This is the go to for a fun, easy to make mocktail. It’s even a clean drink that makes me feel healthier. The addition of ginger beer can be kind of bitter, so I would replace it with white soda or sparkling water. I would also recommend freezing the fruit in the ice cubes and letting them flavor the drink slowly.

Overall, mocktails are an easy, and tasty alternative to alcoholic cocktails. St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect time to spend with your family and friends and explore new recipes. I hope you all have a good holiday.
