My Time in the Purple, Green and Gold-Colored Streets of St. Louis, MO

Overall

This weekend I attended my first Mardi Gras celebration in St. Louis, Missouri with my best friends. It was so much fun, and I would absolutely go again! The culture in St. Louis was very exciting when it came to the parade that happens every year downtown. It was very similar to the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Chicago, but instead of green and orange, everyone was decked out in purple, gold and green outfits. My friends and I spent the whole day meeting new people, watching the parade, and trying to get as many beads thrown at you from the parade as possible.

What to expect

There were many DJs playing music on the streets. Walking around and stopping to dance with my friends was one of my favorite parts of the day. After all the fun, we stopped for food at a yummy restaurant and rested, then went back out for even more fun because everyone stays out from dusk till dawn that day. There were endless people on the streets, all very kind, and all wanted to have a good time. There were of course long lines for things like food and the bathroom, but honestly, since everyone was so nice, time went by fast.

Rating my experience

If I had to rate my first Mardi Gras experience, I would rate it a 9/10. I loved being with my friends and walking around the city all day. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was waking up at 7 in the morning to begin my day. It wasn’t too bad, though. I would do it again next year!
