As we all are aware, spring break is upon us. For some people, this means they’ll be lounging on a beach in Miami for a week straight without a care in the world. I’m incredibly happy for those beachgoers, but I am not one of them.

My friends and I are college students without a ton of money to take intense trips. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have a good time! Here are some of my top tips for spring break — on a budget.

1. See if you can travel to a friend’s house instead of a hotel

This is one that I’m taking advantage of this spring break! Housing is a prohibitive cost for a lot of people. Luckily, if you have friends spread across the country like I do, you can go and visit them! So long as their family is okay with it, I love saving money and spending time with my friends and family, it is the best of both worlds.

2. Have a DIY spa day

This is an easy way to treat yourself! You can buy some face masks, or make some of your own made out of simple household ingredients like honey, oatmeal and yogurt. Then you can play some relaxing music and treat yourself.

3. Play tourist in your own town

We often take for granted the things we see everyday. It can be a lot of fun to shift your perspective and see everyday things in a new light! Treat your own home town like a vacation destination in and of itself. Try out a new coffee shop or learn a little more about your town’s history. You never know what you’re able to discover!
