Easter has always been my favorite holiday, Halloween a close second. You can just ask my mom. We never really celebrated Easter any differently than most people, but there always seemed to be something about the holiday that made me love it. This is a small list of my favorite things about Easter. From candy/gifts, the timing, time spent with family and egg hunts.

Candy/Gifts

Of course, one of the best parts of Easter are the small gifts left in your Easter basket. Easter basket presents feel so different from Christmas presents, because most of the time they focus so heavily on the summer ahead. My favorite is always getting a swimsuit. Now that I’m older, my mom lets me pick out which one I like the most, but it was such a fun surprise when I was a kid. Another constant in my Easter basket is anything having to do with summer. This could be hiking necessities, summer reading choices, a new water bottle, sunscreen or a cute beach towel. Anything my parents think would be useful for the upcoming sunny days. The candy is also some of the best. My favorites are always the chocolate bunnies and the Dubble Bubble egg-shaped gum that only lasts for a couple minutes but it’s so delicious. There’s also some of the “weirder” picks like edible Easter grass, which I love. I feel that Easter has such a wide variety of candy.

Timing

One of the best parts about Easter is how close it is to summer. It’s the perfect time to go on an egg hunt with all of your cousins and friends, but still end up at the family dinner table for ham by afternoon. You don’t have to sit and wonder when you’re going to get to wear your new swimsuit because summer is just around the bend! I love being outside, and my mom and I always go on an Easter walk to celebrate. It’s typically warm enough so we get to keep that tradition going. It’s also awesome because you can associate flowers and bright colors with Easter. Spring is one of the best times to have holidays, but we have such a drought of them. Bring more holidays to spring!

Egg Hunts

This has always been one of my favorite parts. I was always the youngest in my family, so I typically did egg hunts alone. Now that I’m older, however, I get to hide all of the eggs for my younger cousins and watch them search around. Most of the time we do candy-filled eggs, or eggs with money. But sometimes we hard-boil eggs, decorate them, find them, and then chuck them into the back parts of woods or take them back inside for breakfast. Especially when you would miss one and your parents would be like: Are you sure you got them all?

Family Events

I guess you could say this is one of my favorite parts of most Holidays, but I absolutely love family time. We always end up going to my great grandma’s house and my whole family shows up. Aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, even some just plain family friends. It’s so exciting to watch the younger kids receive their Easter baskets from family and going on egg hunts in the big backyard. We also always bring some of the best foods. Ham, casseroles, dips, vegetable and fruit platters. One of my favorites, however, are dyed hard-boiled eggs from the Easter egg hunts prior. They’re always so good.

There are so many reasons why Easter is one of the best holidays out there, but these are just a couple of the ones I came up with. I’m so thankful to have a wonderful family that allows me to love this holiday so much. I hope you all have an awesome Easter holiday!
