British comedy is different from American comedy. British comedy is more raw, open and their television ratings are more flexible to include more distinctive content make it more feasible to include more adult humor. As this humor attracts a more mature audience, the content seems more raw and realistic. These shows are distinct comedic British sitcoms that everyone should watch.

“Extras”

“Extras” is the tv show to experience if you want to become a well-known actor. Following the popular, Ricky Gervais, you quickly learn in the series, being a working actor is hard-work. As he is invisible compared to the special guest stars who appear in each episode, he quickly begins to hate his life. Living a depressing, boring life as an extra, there are challenges he faces in attempting to make himself into a big star. Only with time, luck, and risking a bit of his humanity will he become a star.

“The Inbetweeners”

Your typical high school, comedy/drama but with British humor pin-points the entirety of “The Inbetweeners.” There are several characters you can relate to. The outcasts who try to seem popular, but are secretly nerdy boys at heart. Anyone can relate to these characters as all they want to do is fit in. Friendship is important in the series, but also comes with hardships as this group of friends’ will embarrass you whenever they can. It’s funny to see friends humiliate one another, but also stick through the good, bad and ugly in life. 

“The IT Crowd”

‘IT Crowd’ adds a sense of humor to the information technology field. Not only do you have the two IT specialists who portray nerds working in a basement who don’t quite pick up on social cues. As their new manager has no experience in information technology, she offers advice to the lads on picking up girls, real life circumstances and how to interact with others. This show is hysterical with the raw, accurate depictions of life being harsh on people, but it also explores the over-the-top hilarities that make for outstanding television. 

These sitcoms introduce British comedy. Anyone who has not been exposed to British humor should watch one episode as the jokes are far more original. Overall, sitcoms seem typical and boring, but if you want a change in pace, British sitcoms are unique and offer a new flare into comedy.
