It’s time to talk about hair! There’s something amazing about having a great hair day and I love having pretty hair as much as the next girl. Even though I like styling my hair, I try not to use a lot of heat while I do so.

I’ve learned what styles and techniques work the best for me so I thought I’d share my favorite heatless styling methods with you!

Sock Curls

If you’ve spent any time on the internet over the past month, you’ve probably seen people use socks to create curls without using heat on their hair. Weird right, but not everyone has foam rollers lying around. Any longer pair of socks can work well for this styling method. The socks can be left on your hair for a few hours or overnight while you sleep, depending on how tight and bouncy you want the curls.

I actually tried out this style with my sister after we saw it on tik tok and it worked really well! You can start with almost dry hair after you shower, or you can dampen your hair a little bit. You can also do this with dry hair. There are lots of videos online of how to do this but basically, you braid your hair around the sock as if it is the third piece of hair in the braid. It’s super simple and once you try it a few times, you can do it pretty quickly!

The sock curls method creates more traditional, full curls comparable to what you can get from a curling iron, rather than simply braiding.

Overnight Braid

Simple, classic, tried and true. If you want your hair to have beachy waves without using heat, braids are probably the easiest way to go. You can do one braid for larger, looser waves or two braids for tighter waves.

If you’ve got some time on your hands, or want to achieve a lot of smaller waves, you can section your hair and do a few different braids. You can braid your hair when its damp or dry, whichever you prefer. Basically, there’s no way to go wrong with this method. Braiding your hair is an easy way to create waves without the heat.

Overnight Buns or Twists

This method is similar to the approach of the braiding style. While braiding creates a more wavy style, twisting creates spiral style curls. There are many ways to achieve curls using twists and buns so I would try this method out a few times when you don’t have an event to go to the next day.

When creating the buns or twists your hair can once again be damp or dry. You can do one giant bun for a really smooth, loose curl or you can do a few different smaller buns. Twists are also a great way to achieve heatless curls. You can search a variety of styles online, including the rope braid which is super easy but gives a great effect!

These heatless curling styles are all about figuring out what works the best with your own hair and its natural texture. When you want to style your hair next, try taking some time to test out these methods and see what style you like the best!
