“Sun”-days mean “fun”-days in Bloomsburg

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bloom U chapter.

If you’re not already aware of the “gloomy-bloomy,” or “doomsburg” taglines that go along with the crappy weather patterns in Bloomsburg, then I’m sure you will soon find out for yourself, or through the relentless complaints of other students. While Bloomsburg tends to suffer from typical unfortunate weather forecasts, even the slightest bit of sunshine can turn any normal day into a fun-filled day of festivities.

It’s actually pretty wild how drastically different the town of Bloomsburg is when the sun is shining and the temperature is warm—and by warm I mean 60°+. In fact, you may even be fooled into thinking you are at some kind of tropical resort judging by the sudden cheer and bliss that is inevitably spreading throughout the town. Not only is everyone out and about with big smiles on their faces, but our campus’s quad becomes an outdoor community full of students partaking in all kinds of outdoor activities. Typically spotted are groups of sunbathing beauties, teams of Frisbee players, the infamous tight ropers, and naturally, studious students taking full advantage of the sun’s UV rays.

Speaking of the festivities transpiring off-campus is a whole other story. As a senior at BU, I find my four years of witnessing—and partaking in—“sun”-day fun-days in Bloomsburg to be acceptable experience for making accurate depictions. From tanning on the roof to devoting the day’s sun presence to a day-drinking extravaganza, Bloomsburg’s off-campus scene is far from boring.

“The sun’s out, let’s drink.”

“Get your bathing suits on, we’re laying out.”

“Today, we go to Bloom Beach!”

“It’s sunny, let’s get ice cream from Big Chill.”

“What a perfect day to blast some summer hits of the 90’s”

“We’re all going on a walk today.”

“Cook out at my house tonight.”
