Get Your Best Lashes Ever!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bloom U chapter.

We all know that girl with the most perfect lashes ever placed on a single human being. You can’t have a good conversation with her because the whole time she’s talking you’re wondering to yourself how in the world she gets her lashes look so long and thick. Well, I have great news: you can be that girl! With 10 of the best tips and tricks on getting longer, thicker and more dramatic lashes (that will actually last all day), you’ll be the girl creating monsoons with every blink.

1. Picking the right mascara can be a challenge. The key is to find one that gives volume and/or length without clumping. One of my personal favorites is Lashblast Volume by Covergirl. It makes lashes super thick with no clumping in sight.

2. If your lashes grow straight down like mine do, you’ll need to invest in a curler. Although there are some very fortunate ladies who are blessed with naturally curled lashes, most of us aren’t that lucky, so picking up a simple curler is an absolute necessity.

3. Before you curl your lashes, heat up your eye lash curler with a hair dryer for a few seconds. It’s just like curling your hair; the heat will make the curl more intense and last all day. Just make sure to test the heated lash curler on the inside of your arm before putting it up to your eye to avoid burning the delicate skin that surrounds your eye.

4. Make sure you’re applying your mascara correctly! Starting at the base of your lashes, wiggle the brush then swipe straight up to the tips. This keeps the mascara from clumping while giving each lash an even coat.

5. After applying one coat of your mascara, dust loose face powder (or baby powder if you don’t have any on hand) over wet lashes with a makeup brush. Wait for it to dry and apply more mascara over it. This makes lashes unbelievably thick!

6. Don’t forget about bottom lashes! Giving your bottom lashes a nice even coat of mascara pulls them downward away from the top lashes, making the top lashes look crazy dramatic and opens up your eyes even more.

7. If mascara is starting to look clumpy, run through lashes with a spoolie brush (or even a clean toothbrush!) to “brush” them out. It will remove the clumps without taking off the mascara.

8. Make lashes stand out by applying a light champagne colored eye shadow on your lids. Dark lashes on the light background will really make them pop!

9. Tightline your upper lash line to give the allusion of fuller lashes. Gently pull up your top eye lid and run eyeliner (make sure it matches the color of your mascara) along the inside of your lash line. Be careful while doing this, poking your eye with eyeliner isn’t the best feeling in the world.

10. Switch out your mascara frequently. Mascara has a short shelf life of three months, so be sure to replace it when necessary. When mascara is too old, it begins to get flaky and clumps easily.

Enjoy your beautiful lashes!
