Fashion Flashbacks to Fashion Forward: Bringin’ Back the ’90s

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bloom U chapter.

For our generation of 90s babies, many recent fashion trends have been nothing short of nostalgic. It wasn’t until recently that I took more notice of these throwback styles, and how we’ve managed to put our own 21st century spin on some of the most iconic style pieces from our childhood.

Here are some rising trends that developed from 90s fashion flashbacks, to today’s fashion forward styles!

High-Waisted Bottoms

High-waisted bottoms have become overwhelmingly popular over the last year. Adding embellishments such as studs and shreds gives them a modern, edgy and fashionable twist to fit today’s style.

Overalls

It seems one of the dorkiest ’90s trends is making a killer comeback! Overalls are not only fashion forward, but they’re crazy comfortable – which is a total collegiette bonus! Pairing them with a fitted crop top and heels gives overalls the modern edge needed to crossover from a frumpy, outdated, nerdy look, to a sexy and contemporary fashion statement.

Tied Flannel Around the Waist

Tying a button-up flannel around the waist is one of the most worn styles seen around campus this year. Generally, it’s best to pair this look with fitted pieces, although a loose crop top could work. Wearing a flannel as an accessory is a trendy way to kick your outfit up a notch, while still maintaining a “laid back” look.

I’m loving the ’90s comeback, and I can’t wait to see what trend will be next.Bring out your inner childhood style and giving these looks a try!
