5 Great Summer Outfits For A Day In The City

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

With finals in our rear-view mirror, we now get to look ahead to a summer full of both relaxation and excitement. Sure, many of us have important internships or  may be returning to previous summer jobs, but summer is also a time to forget about the burdens of school, exams, and papers and enjoy a day of bliss or a night out on the town.

One of the best things about Binghamton University is that it is only three hours away from Manhattan and for most of us Long Islanders and New Jerseyers, we are only a mere half an hour train ride outside the city that never sleeps, where the streets are paved with gold, and where dreams are made into reality. That means we get to enjoy the pleasures of strolling around Central Park eating Mr. Softee ice cream, enjoying an exhibit at the MoMA or Met, grabbing a latté in a café down in trendy Soho, shopping in one of my favorite areas of New York—Chelsea, or watching an outdoor movie just beneath the Brooklyn Bridge.

There’s so much to do in New York City and we have the potential to take full advantage of it!  More so, we get to look cute while doing it! I’ll accept the excuse of wearing soffees and a t-shirt to take an exam, but now that we have time on our hands to look good, there is no reason why we should be able to dress our best all summer long! Here are five outfits I would wear into the city for a day of fun.

Lauren Howley is a junior at Binghamton University pursuing a double degreen in English/rhetoric and Marketing. Originally from Staten Island, New York, Lauren thinks that New York City is the most beautiful place in the world and hopes to one day live and work there. She was a staff writer for the Arts and Lifestyle section of the Binghamton PipeDream, where she spent her time writing about fashion and college life. Last summer, she spent her time researching honeymoon destinations and blogging about bridal trends as an intern for The Knot Weddings Magazine in New York City. In her spare time, Lauren enjoys laughing, hanging out with her friends, blasting music while she drives, applying movie quotes every situation possible, and drinking coffee like its her job. In the future, she hopes to pursue a career in lifestyle journalism or entrepreneurship.
