What to Watch: Be a Professional Procrastinator

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

Syllabus week: scoping out who is in your classes, searching for the cheapest textbooks, and comparing schedules with friends to coordinate the semester’s lunch dates. There are things to accomplish, but we have not yet been hit with the long group meetings and time sensitive Blackboard assignments of this busy new semester. Even the most professional and business savvy Bentley girl will take time off from updating her LinkedIn profile or scrolling through the Economist’s Twitter account to sit back and relax during syllabus week.

There are many ways to relax, but this Bentley girl’s favorite guilty pleasure is binge watching Netflix on the couch with friends, accessorized with fuzzy socks and a blanket. Since Bentley’s rigorous courses keep our planners full, this relaxation time must be fully optimized. Nothing is more annoying than spending more time deciding what to watch than actually watching it! Luckily, Netflix has something to fit any mood.

Do you want to feel productive without actually being productive? Find a documentary series on a fun subject. It will leave you with great talking points. A series will provide the educational elements of a documentary while satisfying the need to binge watch a bunch of episodes at once. On my watch list is TLC’s Extreme Cheapskates. Each episode follows somebody who is passionate about saving money any absurd way they can. Though us business students appreciate the value of money (and the time value of money), making your own toilet paper is not a traditional method to cutting down expenses.

Walking out of your business class feeling inspired to take over the world? Look up any of Bloomberg Television’s Inside documentaries featuring companies like McDonald’s, Chipotle, and Pixar. Each one discusses the secrets to the company’s success. Not that Bentley girls need their secrets to be successful, we have our own.

If you’re not in the mood for a documentary but still want to kick butt, Scandal is a great way to get your daily dose of girl power. Watch main character of the show, Olivia Pope, lead her team of brilliant lawyers to victory in one juicy scandal after another. With her gorgeous suits, perfect hair, and clever ideas, Olivia Pope is the perfect role model for any power hungry Bentley girl. Even if you’re not an IDCC major or law minor, you will be sucked in. Don’t be surprised if you finish the show’s two seasons in one sitting.

So put on your running shoes, and by running shoes I mean fuzzy socks, and go for a Netflix marathon. And check back next week for another installment of What to Watch!
