Great skin is something every woman strives for. But in the cold, dry and dreary weather of the Northeast winter our bodies do all sorts of weird things – especially to our skin! These five vegetables all can be found in Seasons and are packed with skin improving vitamins!
Broccoli: This green tree like vegetable is jam backed with Vitamin C, commonly found in oranges. Vitamin C protects the skin from damage that can lead to wrinkling and aging (yuck!!!). If citrus fruit is not your favorite, try adding broccoli to your diet! It can be found raw in the salad bar or sometimes it is featured as the vegetable served during dinner hours. Whether you like it raw or steamed, broccoli is at Seasons any day of the week and at your local grocery store!
Carrots: Carrots are a favorite among young children because they are so tasty with ranch dressing! Luckily, this orange vegetable is filled with Beta Carotene, a nutrient absorbed by the body to help produce Vitamin A. Both Beta Carotene and Vitamin A help keep your eyes and skin healthy! Carrots can be added to any salad, eaten as a side, or as a snack paired with ranch dressing! All of these are great options that are easily accessible on any college campus!
Peppers: May they be red, orange, or yellow – peppers are a super food filled with Vitamin C. Similar to broccoli, Peppers contain 300 percent of your daily vitamin C intake! They may also reduce anxiety and pre-menstrual symptoms, which can often cause breakouts. Peppers can be found in the salad bar, mixed in with many of Season’s pasta salads as well as dishes located at the Pasta Station.
Cucumbers: Cucumbers have been used in all sorts of ways! It’s often placed over eyes to reduce puffiness, but it can be used all over the face! Cucumbers contain large amounts of water and natural antioxidants, leading them to be very moisturizing. Instead of eating these, try combing them with milk and honey for a chilling face mask! Place on skin for 30 minutes for a cooling and natural home remedy that will be sure to reduce redness AND moisturize!
Tomatoes: Tomatoes have multiple health benefits, especially for the skin! With a high level of Lycopene, Tomatoes may be placed on the face as a gentle cleanser. To start take enough tomatoes, eight or so, to cover your entire face. Pell the tomatoes and place on the skin for a minimum of ten minutes. After washing off your face will be shiny and clean! Don’t be alarmed if any redness occurs from the coloring of the tomato, it will quickly fade!
