What comes to mind when you think about the holidays? For many that dread the snow, a favorite past time is curling up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate to watch our favorite holiday movies. But, of course, the majority of our holiday season is spent on the Bentley campus, so instead of watching movies by yourself, invite your roommates and make it a ‘roomie’ bonding event. Turn on ABC Family, who is hosting the “25 Days of Christmas” starting the first of December and enjoy watching some holiday favorites together while doing your work (maybe!). If you want to watch a movie without any interruptions, I find it worth it to hike up Bentley Mountain to pick up these holiday favorites:
Elf:“Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color?!” This movie is the best for quoting during the holiday season. Make sure you refresh your memory on the most spectacular scenes in ‘Elf’ (“SANTA, I KNOW HIM!) and be able to make references to them whenever people bring up the idea of Santa, snowball fights, and the world’s best cup of coffee!
The Polar Express:Need to remember your childhood fantasies? Take a trip on the Polar Express to remember the days when the holidays meant sleepless nights and enchanting days. Reminisce with your roommates about your different family traditions during the holiday season and about what parts you missed the most. Believe me, you’ll be glad you took the moment to escape the stress and just recall the good ol’ days with this enchanting movie.
The Grinch:Whether it’s the original, cartoon version, we remember as children, or the hilarious Jim Carrey version, I highly recommend sitting down to watch these classics. You can be sure that it will make your heart grow multiple sizes, and will put you in a giving holiday spirit.
A Christmas Carol: Watch this classic to ensure that you won’t be the Scrooge of your family this holiday season. This classic, or recently renovated version with Jim Carrey, teaches us the value of believing in the holidays. Though, you should be warned, a few tears may occur, but I promise will be succeeded by a warm feeling and a smile.
A Christmas Story: A classic. This old-time Christmas movie once taught us life lessons like receiving our dream present was within our reach if we tried hard enough, our Dad’s loved leg lamps and, most importantly, to never stick our tongue to the frosted telephone pole.
The holidays are about coming together, and as Bentley collegiettesTM, we understand the stress you are under, but if you take the time to reminisce and watch some old time favorite movies, you may just see a change in your whole attitude.
