If you’re ever struggling to find quality, inexpensive restaurants in Harvard square, go to Felipe’s Taqueria.

Last weekend, a group of my friends decided to get dinner in Harvard Square. When picking which restaurant to go to, my roommate did not think twice. “Felipe’s,” she insisted. “What is Felipe’s?” I was curious as to why she was so confident with her selection. Her jaw dropped to the floor. “Marissa, you have never been to Felipe’s?” My other friend shakes her head in disbelief, “No, now we have to take you. It is like Moe’s Mexican restaurant but on steroids.” The other friend squeezes my shoulder, “No, seriously, I DREAM about getting Felipe’s when I am at home because I cannot get it where I am from.” They seemed to be exaggerating a little. I think not.

I am not disrespecting Moe’s restaurant by any means. Moe’s is one of my favorite places to get Mexican food, right after Chipotle, as both are right across the street from my home. However, when we walked into Felipe’s, I was instantly impressed with their aesthetic and their quick and kind service. This reminded me of a fancy and more authentic version of the other Mexican chains. The employees gave us a choice to sit outside or on the roof. Outdoor seating gave us a gorgeous view of the Harvard University buildings in Cambridge.

They have an extensive selection of food items to pick from, such as burritos, quesadillas, salad bowls, chimichangas, nachos, and tacos. Unlike an ordinary chain, Felipe’s includes an appetizer portion to their menu serving Pork Tamale, Tostadas, Queso Fundido, and others. Like the chains, the prices are conveniently low, which is surprising considering how fresh their ingredients are. My friends are convinced that their quesadillas are out of this world. On their menu, Felipe’s has specific burritos listed, but you can also create your own catered to your dietary preferences. My personalized burrito was incomparable to any other burrito I have ever eaten.

The experience I had at Felipe’s was top notch. Next time you are strolling along the streets of Cambridge, MA, do yourself a favor and set some time aside to sit down at Felipe’s Taqueria.
