In honor of the Boston Red Sox winning their eighth World Series title, I only thought it was fitting to focus this week’s article on why Fever Pitch is the best baseball romcom.
Fever Pitch premiered in 2005, right after the Red Sox broke the Curse of the Bambino. For those of you who have not seen this super cute movie, it tells the story of new couple Ben (Jimmy Fallon) and Lindsey (Drew Barrymore). Ben’s love for the Boston Red Sox puts most die-hards to shame. Lindsey, a successful business woman, does not quite understand Ben’s love, but she soon adapts to the culture of a Sox fan. Things go well until playoffs roll around. Will Ben’s obsession for the Red Sox leave him striking out in love?
Here are five reasons why Fever Pitch may just be the most perfect romcom about baseball.

Number 1: It really doesn’t get funnier than Jimmy Fallon
Jimmy Fallon, who plays Ben in the movie, has got to be one of the funniest people ever. He knows how to twist every situation into something hilarious. Be on the lookout for his witty one-liners and hysterical accents. Fallon really knows how to put the com into romcom.

Number 2: It’s Good to watch with your boyfriend
There is just enough baseball and romcom to satisfy you and your boy. You are sure to love the cute relationship that Ben and Lindsey form, and your boy is sure to love how important baseball is to the storyline. Who knows—maybe after seeing how crazed Ben is about the Sox, your boy may be able to convince you that his play off beard wasn’t so bad after all.

Number 3: It’s not cheesy
Romantic comedies can sometimes be a little over done. You wait the whole movie for a big climatic kiss in the rain with dramatic music playing in the background. This movie isn’t like that. Ben and Lindsey’s relationship is more relatable. The over the top cheesiness can often ruin a movie, but Fever Pitch does a great job of staying away from the classic clichés.

Number 4: It Gives us all Hope
Lindsey is thirty in the movie. The big three zero. Today so many girls freak out that they are already past their prime at twenty. This movie gives us all a little faith that we don’t need to be married tomorrow. Good and funny guys will still be out there…at least we can hope.

Number 5: America’s Pastime
Whether you are an obsessed fan or don’t know a single thing about the game, baseball is America’s pastime. And while this movie does have a strong tie to baseball, you don’t have to understand the game to love this movie. But if you do love baseball, this movie portrays the game is a very acceptable manner.
