A Weather Confused Girl’s Guide to Spring Fashion

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Belmont chapter.

The beginning of spring comes with major perks- flowers covering the outdoors in a brightly colored blanket, as opposed to one of white snow, sitting outside to do homework at your favorite coffee shop and driving with the windows down.

However, as winter comes to a close, one major question still manages to remain in my mind year after year, which takes it’s toll on my wardrobe. What are you supposed to wear on the days which aren’t yet warm enough for shorts and tank tops, but are still too warm for sweaters and boots.

Luckily, here’s where transitional clothing pieces come in. Not only will these 5 clothing options take some stress off deciding on how to dress in the early spring, but they will, without a doubt, take your look to the next-level.

Overalls

Want to look trendy, but still need to cover up a little bit? Overalls may be the perfect fit. Because they come in so many varieties, and they allow multiple options of what to layer with them, they are a go-to staple for spring weather. My favorite overall style look is an overall dress layered with a simple tee underneath.

Light Jackets

Once the temperature begins to rise, it is time to throw your winter coat on a hanger and put it back in your closet. Instead, reach for a lighter jacket which will be less breathable and won’t compromise your warmth. Oversized denim and and quilted bomber jackets are some of my favorite spring picks.

Distressed Boyfriend Jeans

While it may still seem a little too early to wear shorts, that doesn’t mean that you have to stick to wearing boring skinny jeans. Instead, toss on a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans. While they will add a lot more style and character to your outfit, they will also allow your legs to catch a breath of that refreshing spring air.

Mesh

One of the newest, and most popular trends this year is the perfect pick for a spring day. Grab a mesh top if you’re looking to add a layer, but don’t want to cover up too much. The best part of the mesh trend is that you can adjust it to your comfort level, or the weather, layering it with a bralette, tank top, or anything else which might catch your eye.

Button Downs

This season, business casual just got revamped. One look through the magazines will show that button downs aren’t the same boring look they used to be. Their updated versions include styles which are off the shoulder, sheer, backless or cropped. Grab a modernized button down shirt to add some trend and some class to your spring outfit.

Weather confusion have you feeling stressed out? Reaching for these trending transitional pieces will have you looking chic and ready to face the new season!
