The end of the school year is nigh, which means that life is pretty hectic right now with trying to salvage your grades, fitting as much time in with your friends as possible before you won’t see them for a few months, and figuring out what you’re going to do this summer. Then once summer comes, it will be packed with doing as much as you can before you have to go back to class in the fall. The best solution? Watching your inner anxiety and stress play out on the big screen in the form of explosions and fighting. Lucky for you, a lot of blockbuster action movies are coming out this spring and summer that you won’t want to miss, so grab some popcorn and take a peek at these films to look forward to.

Rampage

April 13th

Not gonna lie, when I first watched this trailer I legitimately thought it was going to be a gritty reboot of the Curious George books. In Rampage, primatologist Davis Okoye, who is played by Dwayne Johnson, has a special bond with a gorilla that goes feral after some sort of genetic testing, forcing Okoye to either save the gorilla or prevent him from causing any more destruction. The gorilla’s name is George, so this movie is pretty much a combination of King King and Curious George. Other featured actors are Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Ackerman, and Joe Manganiello.

Avengers: Infinity War

April 27th

If you’re a huge Marvel fan like me, this movie is a mix of excitement because we finally get to see all of these character arcs collide, but also sadness because this is the end of the road for some characters—not everyone is going to make it out. This movie is a turning point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it looks epic. Captain America is rogue, we’re going to get some pretty good banter between Iron Man and Star-Lord, and it looks like things are going to heat up between Wanda Maximoff and Vision.

Deadpool 2

May 18th

The merc with a mouth is back. Get ready for self-referential quips, off-the-wall dirty humor, and plenty of gore and action. Honestly, Deadpool is the role Ryan Reynolds was born to play. I’m also super excited about the rest of the heroes in the cast: Domino (Zazie Beetz), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), and Bedlam (Terry Crews), not to mention the antagonist, Cable (Josh Brolin). The best part of this movie is probably the hilarious trailers and previews that you should definitely check out to hold you over until the movie hits theaters.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

May 25th

Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. Emilia Clarke as Qi’ra. Alden Ehrenreich as Han. This film directed by Ron Howard has a spectacular cast, and I hope it won’t disappoint. It follows the adventures of a young Han Solo as he is shaped into the character we all know and love. Personally, I’m really excited about this movie, not just because I adore Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke, but because I love to see actors take on the mantle of established characters and reinterpret them in a new way because it adds more depth and nuance to that character’s mythology. I also really like the 60’s vibe of the costuming and aesthetics because I’m a sucker for movies that have a vintage feel. Based on the trailer, Solo is going to be a mix of suspense, wit, drama, and action, and hopefully, it will give another glimpse of that galaxy far, far away.

Ocean’s 8

June 8th

This movie has a stunning cast: Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Mindy Kaling, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, Awkwafina, and Sarah Paulson. In this film, Debbie Ocean, played by Bullock, is a supposedly reformed con who gathers an eclectic group of women to pull an unparalleled last heist at the Met Gala that will make them all filthy rich. Not only is this a movie with some serious girl power, but it looks like it’s an action movie that is more witty and enthralling than just explosions and fight scenes, but I’m sure there will be plenty of those, too.

The Incredibles 2

June 15th

This is it—the movie we’ve all been waiting fourteen years for. It picks up right at the end of the first film, and this time Elastigirl gets to shine in the hero spotlight while Bob has to try and wrangle the duties of fatherhood. Overall, I think I’m most excited to see Edna Mode and Jack Jack because both of them are packed with personality, and Edna’s sass is legendary. Sequels are tricky, so if this movie disappoints our generation will probably revolt; let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

June 22nd

Jeff Goldblum, dinosaurs, and volcanoes. What else do you need in life? The second installment in the Jurassic World series but fifth in the canon of Jurassic Park films, Fallen Kingdom is action-packed and laden with suspense. Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) are tasked with saving what dinos they can in a tense, high-stakes mission before a volcano explodes the island. Based on the epic music in the trailer, this movie will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Honestly, nothing can live up to the first movie and its perfection; yet life, and blockbuster reboots will always find a way.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

July 6th

Yeah, that’s right—and the Wasp. Finally, a title that includes a female superhero. Let that sink in. People might be annoyed that Marvel is releasing so many movies (I mean, this is the third in the span of like two months) but if it means we get movies like the highly anticipated Captain Marvel movie, I’m fine with it. Paul Rudd really gives life to Scott Lang, and Evangeline Lilly is going to kick serious butt as Hope Pym. Also, this movie will go more in-depth with the danger and responsibility that comes with playing a hero as Scott tries to balance his fatherhood with his superpowers.
