While You Were Out: This Week’s Top News

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

LOCAL:  For those of you who haven’t been watching the news…or haven’t been on the Agora Portal…or haven’t been anywhere near Fulton, The Carroll School of Management has now risen to sixth place in Bloomberg Businessweek’s National Business Programs ranking.

NATIONAL:  Nevada Senator Harry Reid plans on introducing a gun control bill that will mandate universal background checks.  The bill will hopefully provide a footing for future gun regulation, and polls have already shown a 84% approval rating.

GLOBAL:  “Peace is possible,” has been Obama’s catch phrase throughout his talks in Israel over the past couple of days.  The president has traveled between Jerusalem and Ramallah, urging both Israel and Palestine to return to peace negotiations.

ENTERTAINMENT:  Ultra!  Ultra!  Ultra!  Although most of the Boston College population remained on campus last weekend, the music festival was live streamed.  Watch it online here!  Make sure that you replay Hardwell.

Kelsey Damassa is in her senior year at Boston College, majoring in Communications and English. She is a native of Connecticut and frequents New York City like it is her job. On campus, she is the Campus Correspondent for the Boston College branch of Her Campus. She also teaches group fitness classes at the campus gym (both Spinning and Pump It Up!) and is an avid runner. She has run five half-marathons as well as the Boston Marathon. In her free time, Kelsey loves to bake (cupcakes anyone?), watch Disney movies, exercise, read any kind of novel with a Starbucks latte in hand, and watch endless episodes of "Friends" or "30 Rock."
