Treating Yourself During Stressful Times

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Midterm season is upon us and we are all swamped with work. It feels as if there is a never ending pile of work that is coming at us all. After a long week of studying, it is so hard to sit down and take a breather. Sometimes, I feel like I’m still frantically finding something to do even when I have finished all my work. Here are a few ways you can find ways to wind down after long weeks.

  1. Manicure

There’s something about getting a manicure that is so calming; maybe it’s the weird piano music they have playing in the background or feeling so cleansed after getting your nails perfectly trimmed, buffed, and painted, but I feel like I have a little extra pep in my step after getting one. Some places have student discounts which are always really nice. After a stressful week (or few weeks) of classes, it’s really rewarding to get off campus and try a new color on your nails.

  1. Go on a little adventure

The weather is getting chilly but it/s still great for going out and exploring! Go to a pumpkin patch or take advantage of other fall themed events that are going on in this area. If the weather is nice, you could even go outside and lay out in the sun or go for a walk around the Res. You could go downtown and shop with some friends as a treat as well! (who doesn’t like a little shopping?)

  1. Lay on the couch and watch a show or movies

Sometimes, I have absolutely no energy to do anything after a long week and it’s just necessary to lay on the couch or in bed and watch a movie or Netflix. It is so nice to be able to lay back and relax, without worrying about work that needs to be done. I feel like people never like to admit that they just need to lay low for a bit but there’s nothing wrong with that ( and we have all done this at least a few times)!

  1. Sleep in

After working hard all week and having a fun night out, it’s a great feeling to sleep in as late as you’d like and feel refreshed. Sometimes, its better to choose sleep over staying up so late. Even when you’re stressed and feel as if you have no other option than to stay up until an ungodly hour, sleeping before you’re complete delirious from lack of sleep. Value your sleep y’all!!

  1. Go get a nice meal with friends

The other weekend, one of my roommates and I decided to try out a restaurant. After working hard all week, it was really nice to dress up nice and get some good food! Last year, I loved going to the diner in Newton Center if I had a long day  (who doesn’t want a milkshake?) Even small treats and excursions are ways to clear your mind. Whether it is a cute dinner, brunch, or even going out to a new coffee place, it is a nice change of scenery to be able to go out of campus and get good food (who doesn’t want to eat something good?)

While midterm season may seem like an abyss, there is an end! Don’t let the stress of midterms take over you life. Be sure to take some time
