So your professor just had to assign that midterm for the Monday morning after St. Patrick’s Day. Or maybe tossing back pints of green beer just isn’t your style. Whatever the reason is, you do not want to be wasted on St. Patrick’s Day. Well here are just a few ideas to get you through this St. Paddy’s Day sober!
Watch a festive movie:
Remember the movie Luck of the Irish from Disney Channel? What’s better than a movie about an awkward middle schooler learning he’s a leprechaun? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jDqAvroLmU
St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Southie:
At 1:00 PM on March 17, the annual South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade will begin on West Broadway Street and end at Dorchester Avenue. A complete map of the parade route can be found at http://www.skytouch.org/images/content/sbparade-route/St.%20Patricks%20Day%20Parade%20Route%20Download.pdf.
Take a tour on the Irish Heritage Trail:
With twenty destinations on this trail you will get to explore a lot of the city. You can go online and print out a map of all the stops and take a self-guided tour or for $15 per person you and your friends can go with a tour group. On weekends the tours fill quickly so make sure you make a reservation online!

Go to church:
It is a Sunday… and it is the Feast Day of Saint Patrick. This day was originally meant to be a church festival.
Have an Irish step dancing competition among your friends:
Whether you’re all sober or your friends have a few drinks in them, this will be entertaining for all of you as you bring your best Irish jig to the dance floor. Blast some Irish pub songs, get a panel of judges and may the best dancer win!
Go in search of a four-leaf clover:
It might be a little more difficult under all this snow but what’s a little snow for some good luck?
In any case, be aware that while you might have a sober day planned out that might not be on your friends’ agenda. So in the event that they’ve had a few too many, don’t forget to help out your friends when they come back!
