A Sophomore’s Lower Campus Discoveries

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

After the first two weeks as a Sophomore at BC, I have discovered many things on campus that have changed my life for the better. As freshmen, we didn’t venture down to Lower Campus very often during the daytime besides the (very few) plex runs and football games. It was scary–full of older and taller people, and somehow everyone knew we were freshmen. But after two and a half weeks of venturing through lower in daylight, I have discovered a handful of useful hacks…

1.  Addie’s can make you coffee AND it’s on the meal plan

It took me way too many poorly self-made iced coffees to discover that you can order coffee in Addie’s. It’s just as good as the Chocolate Bar AND you don’t cringe every time you see your updated Dining Bucks balance. Even better, the line at 9:45 am is never longer than four people.

2.  Addie’s has milkshakes

Who doesn’t love a good milkshake? It’s a drink you can have any time of the day and it’s made from the best food on Earth. Getting a little tired but need an energy boost? Ask them to add a shot of espresso!

3.  Basically anything Addie’s

As a freshman, I had heard the whispers around campus about the magical place that made flatbreads, but I never made the trek to see if it was really true. After discovering Addie’s, I’ll never be able to go back to chicken and two sides again.

4.  Starbucks in Hillside

Hillside. Has. Starbucks. I have a friend who for the last two weeks has hiked up to Mac in order to get her Starbs fill. Thank god for Hillside and its hidden treasures. It’s also right on the way to the Maloney Elevator.

5.  Take the parking garage elevator

We all hate climbing stairs, but we also know that BC was founded on them. The Maloney elevators still put you at the bottom of a long flight of stairs, so if you really aren’t in the mood, just take the parking garage elevator to the top and you’re golden.

6. You can link your meal plan account with your siblings’

If your sibling goes to BC as well, you can link your plans together in order to share the money. This is especially nice when one sibling has the Flex Meal Plan and the other has the Mandatory Meal Plan so you can eat from both Hillside and the Rat however much as you want.

7.  You can walk through the back of Lower to get to Main Campus faster.

We’ve all had those days when you have five minutes to get to class but you still need coffee. By walking through the Lower dining hall, past the vending machines, you can shave off at least 3 minutes. Then, at least you’ll be walking into class five minutes late with a full cup of coffee.

8.  You can walk behind the Mods to get to Plex faster

Walking to the Plex has always been its own form of exercise. But if you walk behind the Mods to get there, you won’t arrive with a cramp or have enough time to talk yourself out of taking that 60-minute Spin class.

9.  Life is just better all around
