Simple Changes to Make for a Healthier You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

BC definitely has a reputation for Plexaholics and people who are generally into fitness and eating healthy. For the rest of us, a few simple changes or additions to our daily routines can ensure that we stay healthy. Here are some examples that I have personally made adjustments to and can vouch for.

Peanut Butter

I genuinely don’t understand people who claim that they hate peanut butter; I feel like they’re all in denial. One of the healthier yummy snacks, peanut butter is packed with protein and good fats. I am a heavy snacker, and night times are usually when I tend to eat most. I began replacing my go-to junk foods with a few spoons of peanut butter and was amazed at how much better I felt. I did not get that uncomfortable sugar high, yet still felt satisfied. If you really don’t like or can’t have peanut butter, alternatives like almond butter also taste great!

Whole Grains

Another replacement in my diet I’ve made is the switch from white to whole wheat bread. It took me a while to let go of the childhood nostalgia associated with white bread sandwiches, but I really don’t miss that now. Although this change wasn’t as immediately gratifying as the previous one, I can’t help but feel good about the adjustment I’ve made with all the evidence of the benefits of whole grains.

Choose Your Drinks Wisely

The best drink you can have with any meal is water. If you drink a lot of soda, you might want to consider healthier options, like sports drinks or even fruit juices. That way, you’re getting some extra nutrients while still sipping on something sweet! Don’t forget, milk (or chocolate milk) is also a great tasting and incredibly healthy option!

Squeeze a Little Exercise in Your Routine

Let’s be honest, I could probably count the number of times I’ve been to the Plex this semester on one hand. I still try to stay active in my everyday routines, though! I rarely ever skimp out on the Million Dollar Stairs by taking the Hillside elevators, ensuring a bit of cardio in my day. I also always take the stairs up to my dorm room. These small bits of extra exercise all add up to a healthier you! It’s not an easy adjustment to make at first, but it’s something you can definitely be proud of at the end of the day.

It’s important to remember that anything in excess can be harmful, so be sure to listen to what your body is telling you at all times and to always make smart choices. Let us know what simple healthy tips you’ve got!
