Shall I Compare Thee to a F’real Milkshake?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

It was all over after that fateful day.  You lured me in with your impressive array of flavors (cookies and cream, mint chocolate chip, basic chocolate and vanilla— the list goes on) and your flashing lights.  It was love at first sight and we enjoyed the entirety of my freshman year together.  I thought that when I left Newton Campus on Mother’s Day in 2012, that our goodbye would be the last, and that I would always have fond memories of our days in Stuart Dining Hall.  I thought that you would remain static and unchanged, always waiting for me in the same spot, just in case I decided to catch the bus and revisit freshman year.

I was mistaken.  When I returned in the fall, you had apparently spent the summer getting busy with the other dining halls.  All of a sudden, you were in Mac, you were in Lower, and I was hurt.  How could you leave Newton?  How could you take away my good times, and my justification for enjoying the non-Upper experience?  What was I going to say now, when people tried to say that Newton sucks?  You were the one shining ray of hope in a dark, far-away abyss, and now I had nothing.  Nothing.

But you were persistent, F’Real, so persistent.  Just as splendid and enticing as I remembered, only this time with new flavors like mango smoothie and I couldn’t stay mad at you for long.  In fact, I think some of our best memories are from this year— having a coffee milkshake for breakfast that one morning, experimenting with the “more thick” and “less thick” options as they relate to wait time— and I’m happy you made the move with me to main campus.

One day, we will meet again in Stuart (probably when I’m looking to spend the rest of my meal plan, ‘cause you ain’t cheap…) and I can only hope that we’re still in love.

Meaghan Leahy is a 21-year-old native New Yorker and senior at Boston College, whose hips only sometimes lie. When she's not wishing she were as honest as Shakira, she can be found running, Band-ing, or public speaking; in addition to writing for HC BC, she is a member of the Screaming Eagles Marching Band, Word of Mouth, and loves a good lap (or two, or five) around the Res. Meg is passionate about running and fitness, is a trained lifeguard, and works at the campus gym Equipment Desk. A highlight of her Boston College career thus far was being a TA for Intro to Feminisms. She has interned at both Anthropologie and the Supreme Court in Brooklyn, New York, so even though she is pursuing a Communication and English double major with a Women's and Gender studies minor, she is still trying to map it all out. She really, really hopes to graduate with a real job and everything. Please hire her, despite her severe Diet Coke addiction. Her redeeming skills and qualifications can be found on her LinkedIn account.
