The Sex Files #22: Sand, Summer, and Sexual Health

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Just like Late Night, Strip Mod, and Marathon Monday, all good things must eventually come to an end. Unfortunately, this blog is not an exception. So, while we still can’t believe that we’re actually writing the final blog of the year, we figured we could take this opportunity for a few more suggestions on how to stay healthy over break.

So in the spirit of sexual health, here are just a few ways that our members are going to stay safe this summer:

“In addition to being a camp counselor, one of the most unsexy jobs on the planet, I will be a tester for Lucky Bloke! Thus, I will be protecting myself from a slew of nasty STIs and STDs, while helping tell humanity what type of condom is the best. #winning. I also will most likely not actually be having any sex this summer, which is great since abstinence is the most effective way to prevent both pregnancy and STD transmission.”
-Jessika, A&S ‘14

“I’m going to stay sexually healthy this summer by scheduling another appointment with my gyno. Hopefully I’m ready this time – I’ve mastered the art of awkward conversation this year in the Walsh elevator.”
–Amanda, A&S ‘14

“I’m living with my traditional Catholic father this summer. Forced abstinence. No fun, no STIs, no pregnancy, ‘nuff said.”
-Lizzie, A&S ‘13

“I plan on having tons of wild sex with my girlfriend while using male or female condoms. But not at the same time.”
-Mike, CSOM ‘12

“I will be rekindling my relationship with reading and my guitar, so the most danger I’ll be in is at the peril of paper cuts and blistered fingers. I’ll be spending my first summer in Boston, being safe as always!”
-Chelsea, A&S ‘14

“I will be safe over summer break
Because I always wrap my snake.
Not doing so is a grave mistake!
And so good decisions I will make
with the girls in the yards’ milkshakes
because I’m really just not ready to procreate–
I’ve already got enough things on my plate.”
-Nick, A&S ‘12

“My summer STD and STI avoidance strategy can be summed up in two words: Comic Con. I don’t think I’ll be in any danger, unless the world’s gone topsy-turvy and Dungeons and Dragons has finally become cool.”
-Don, A&S ‘14

“As a lifeguard and swim coach during the summer, I try to abstain from sexual activities in the work place as I am responsible for about 130 children between the ages of 4-16. If the opportunity should present itself outside of the pool, I plan on using condoms and an oral contraceptive to prevent against pregnancy and STDs. However, I will most likely be remaining abstinent this summer because I really want to focus on my future career as a country club pool employee, (you never know where an English degree is going to get you these days).”
-Erika, A&S ‘14

“I’ll be spending my summer in Boston juggling 2 internships and the humid weather without AC. Being that hot and humid, sex just won’t be an option. But if it’s a cold rainy day, you can bet I’ll be snuggled up in bed trying out every variety of Trojan condoms, with lots of lube.”
-Marion, A&S’13

We hope we’ve given you some ideas on how to stay on top of your health this summer. We will see you all in the fall!

Peace, love, and lube,
