A Reflection on Health and Relationships

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

The question, “Did you have a fun break?” was truly starting to get to me coming back to school this spring because the answer was, sadly, no. I recently got stuck with a really nasty virus that left me fatigued, feverish, and achy (Not contagious, so no worries!). Needless to say, though, that attending class was the last thing I felt like doing. To be honest, I didn’t even have it in me to socialize! It’s been a rough transition back.

Obviously health issues are private and should be revealed to those closest to you. But as I opened up about my condition, I was incredibly amazed at how kind and genuinely caring everyone was! My professors were completely understanding about the fact that it would take me a little time to catch up. My friends went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable, picking up my books for me, buying me groceries, checking up on me regularly, and just generally being awesome. It made me realize that talking about your issues is in no way a sign of weakness. In fact, you might be pleasantly surprised at how much people want to help you during your time of need.

I want to give one last special thank you to my family. I know I’m not the easiest patient in the world, and it’s been a difficult couple of weeks, but I need you to know how unbelievably appreciative I am of everything you’ve done for me. I love you guys more than you know!

So, Collegiettes, if you’re ever under the weather, or drowning in schoolwork, or just having an off day, you should know that there are always people who have got your back!
