Quick and Easy Hairstyles for a Bad Hair Day!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Well you know those mornings you wake up and stare at yourself in the mirror in horror and think, “What will I do with this birds nest on my head? It looks like an elf moved into my hair during the night and made a teepee out of my hair!” Well never fear, these are some of my favorite ways to style my hair. These hairstyles have the “Nina guarantee” to not send your friends running and screaming for people with better hair.

First step I’ve found what is most useful is to dampen you hair with some water. Most times, I like to run a brush through my hair if it’s extremely bad.

If I have the time I use some of these products to help give my hair some life back!

Basite Dry Shampoo ($5.99 at Sally Beauty Supply)

I really like this one because it helps to get rid of the oil or build up from the previous day. It also makes styling dirty hair a lot easier.

Johnson’s Baby powder ($3.99 at Target, Walmart and most drug stores)

I like using this if I’m in more of a rush because it gets rid of oil at the roots without any kind of sent. Also it helps eliminate any bad smells from not washing your hair for a day or two.

TRESemme Heat Protectant Spray ($5.00 at most drug stores)

Now I know that this is a heat protectant spray but to be totally honest I have used it in many occasions as a kind of hair-styling spray. It works really well at giving your hair a nice smell and helps with any styling efforts.

  • The classic bun:

Now you cannot go wrong with the bun.

  1. Pull hair back as if you are going to make a pony tail.
  2. Twist the hair until tightly wound.
  3. Secure with hair elastic and pins if necessary.

Pros: A bun can be dressed up or dressed down. It is really versatile and even in recent years has become a great fashion trend!

  • The braid:

The braid is a great cute and casual look. I usually like to stick with the side braid.

  1. Divide into three pieces of hair that you twist and weave through out each other. Step two: secure with hair elastic.
  2. Use pins to keep “fly aways” in place.

Pros: A braid is a perfect look for a casual day out. It gives off the “I am easy-going” vibe

  • The French Braid:

The French Braid is a little trickier, so basically this consists of a braid that starts farther up your head.

  1. Separate your hair at the crown of your head.
  2. Braid that layer.
  3. Add to section of hair as you move down layers. Step four: secure with hair elastic.

Pros: The French braid is more secure. I would recommend this if you have more vigorous activities planned for the day. It can also be accessorized with headbands and fun pins.

  • The low ponytail:

The low ponytail is great because it keeps your hair out of your face and is easy to do

  1. Pull back into a ponytail at the base of your head.
  2. Pull at some of the hair at the crown of your head to give the ponytail a little volume.

Pros: This is a nice easy look for summer, winter or fall. It can be dressed up or down and from my recent research, it is one of a man’s favorite ways for a woman to wear her hair!

  • Cute thick head bands:

Head bands are great! They hide any kind of oil at the roots. An added bonus is that they can add a little flair to your look for the day! I’d say the simplest way to style unruly hair is to put the headband on and then tame the hair accordingly!

  • Pulling the front back using pins:

You can use pins to secure any unruly hair but you can also use just pins to style your hair. I now do this all the time when I’m in a rush. I can do it on the go as I run to catch the bus.

  1. Select the piece of hair that is being difficult.
  2. Pin it back!

  • Hat:

When all else fails, put on a hat ladies!

So now you know that it is easy enough to still look great on an off day!
