Pinterest Cocktails on Foster: Wacky White Wine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Ok, fine, so the recipe I tried this week was not too wacky, but there are only so many adjectives that start with the letter “W” and would ever be applicable to wine. What is  interesting about this recipe, however, is that it is not defined as sangria, despite the fact that almost any wine based drink is considered so. This week I tried the Crimean Cocktail, a citrusy drink made with white wine.

This week: Crimean Cocktail, courtesy of CHOW

The Ingredients:

(makes 1 drink)

  • 2 oz. dry white wine
  • 1 oz. orange liqueur
  • 1 oz. soda water
  • ½ oz lemon juice
  • Ice

Making this cocktail is a straight-forward affair. The only challenge that arises is if you choose to squeeze your own lemon juice. I would highly recommend this if you have a juicer because it will make the drink taste fresher. If you don’t have a juicer, “pre-squeezed” lemon juice from the store works just as well.

To make the drink pour all the ingredients into a stainless steel shaker. Just kidding you’re a college student, not a bartender. If you have any sort of sealable container (like a mason jar), then all you need to do is pour the ingredients in, close the lid tight, and shake. Then, if you have any sort of sieve for flour or the sort, pour the drink through this and into the glass. I don’t own a sieve, and if you don’t either that’s perfectly fine. There will just be a little pulp in the drink. Traditionally, this drink is served in a lowball glass (think Anchorman drinking his scotch) over ice. However, a wine glass or any other type of glass is perfectly acceptable.

Overall the drink was light and tangy, but ultimately it wasn’t anything to write home about. I had two glasses of it (It was a Saturday night I swear!), but after that I ended up just drinking a glass of plain wine because I got too lazy to squeeze the lemons. If you are a big lemonade fan, then this drink might be a good fit. Otherwise, it might not be worth the effort.
