Meet Grace Olscamp, the Go-To Girl of OCBC

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Meet this week’s Campus Celebrity, Grace Olscamp!  This Cincinnati native is a big part of the Outdoors Club of Boston College, or OCBC, as well as a dedicated student and hammock enthusiast.  Keep reading to find out more about the nature-loving rock-climbing sophomore!

Name: Grace Olscamp

Year: 2015

Major: Political Science

Hometown: Cincinnati, OH

1) What made you get involved with OCBC?

“My love for the outdoors brought me right to OCBC.  Especially since it just formed last year, it’s pretty exciting.  I also didn’t have the chance to go on any trips last year so I was stoked to get as involved as I could this year.”

2) How long have you liked the outdoors?

“Funnily enough, when I was little, think Girl Scout-elementary school era, my idea of the outdoors was putting a tent in my backyard and bringing a DVD player into it which I could watch while lounging on a giant air mattress.  But, summer before senior year I went on a trip with National Outdoor Leadership Club and backpacked in the wilderness of Wyoming for a month and have been in love ever since.”

3) What are your tasks within OCBC?

“Last semester I was just a trip leader for OCBC.  Then this semester, I came onto the e-board as one of the web designers but since then I began working in publicity and try to help out with anything else that people need.”

4) What is the best event you’ve done with OCBC?

“My favorite event with OCBC was sleeping over MetroRock, a rock climbing gym.  I climbed until 2a.m. and then slept in the bouldering cave on huge crash pads with my friends.”

5) What are you involved with besides OCBC?

“I have an internship with Oceana, an ocean conservation group and I am working to be a trip leader for the Plex’s Outdoor Adventures.”

6) Give us a fun fact about yourself.

“I’m the one doing work in the hammock outside of Robsham on really nice days…come say hi!”
