Meet BC’s hottest Instagram account: BC Overheard

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

“Omg, have you seen the new BC Overheard? It’s so funny!” I hear as I wait in line for my Hillside sandwich. Ever since the account got its start in September of last year it has become the talk of the town, and today Her Campus BC had the pleasure to meet with some of the people who run it to get more information on how they came up with the idea and what BC Overheard has in store for the future.

How did you come up with the idea to start the account?

Back in September we were sitting around on a day off from school and laughing at the original OverheardLA account. We were inspired by the humor and aesthetic to make one that was unique to the ridiculous things overheard on the Heights.

Did you expect it to gain popularity so quickly?

Absolutely not – we honestly had no idea it would take off the way it did. Our goal kept changing from wanting 500 followers to 1,000, and now we want to reach 5K by graduation.

How many of you manage the account?

Three of us post to the account, but all six of us keep our ears open around campus for the next overheard post.

Have you ever posted something that you have said yourself?

We’ll be the first to admit that we say things that are often more ridiculous than the submissions we get – so yes, some of the content is things we’ve said all around campus. One roommate, in particular, is quoted pretty often.

Do you mainly post things that people submit or things that you hear when you’re walking around campus?

Definitely a combination of both – the submissions are awesome and we’re so thankful people contribute! But we text each other when we hear funny things around campus too.

Have you given any thought to how you are going to pick who will run the account once you graduate?

We’re thinking it might get passed down to a new group of seniors after we make our departure, but we’ll see!
