Making a Comfy Outfit Look Pretty

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Ever feel like just rolling out of bed and showing up for class? We’ve definitely all been there. The closest thing to wearing pajamas out is a comfy outfit, yet most of us still dread looking sloppy. Here are some simple tricks I’ve learned for looking cute and girly, despite wearing a baggy shirt or even a boy’s sweatshirt.

Makeup

Sometimes, the right makeup is all it takes to show the world that you spent more than ten seconds getting ready to conquer the day. If you’re the type of girl who can pull off a smoldering smoky eye in the evening, try opting for a toned-down version during the day. Lighter hues of your favorite shades of eye shadow can make for a casual, yet pretty look.

If the smoky eye is too bold for you, winged eyeliner is also a fun and girly option. It may be a little tricky to master at first, but practice makes perfect! I’m a huge fan of this pinup-esque makeup trick; it really makes eyes pop!

Not an eye makeup person? No problem! Lipstick is also a great option for making any ordinary ensemble girly. I really like a classic red, but finding your perfect shade can take some patience and a lot of swatches on your hands (and arms) at a makeup store. If you’re not sure that red is for you, you can opt for a pretty pink or soft peach, both great for spring!

Accessories

Hair scarves and ribbons are a great way to very simply add flair to any outfit. You can find tutorials online about all the different and cool ways to tie these accessories into your hair.

Honestly, I’m a bit lazy about changing my jewelry, but I do admit that a chunky necklace or fun bangles can be the perfect complement to any outfit. Borrow some from friends or family members to play around!

Pulling it all together

One word: shoes! I don’t care what anyone says, shoes are insanely important to every outfit, even the most comfy. A stylish pair of boots or cute sneakers can make even leggings and an oversized sweater look amazing, so don’t skimp in this department.

Hope this gave you some fun ideas to add a little pizazz to even your most mundane (and lazy) outfit days. Remember that it’s important to have fun and find a style that channels your personality! Here’s to all the cute and comfy days this spring semester!
