Love Letter to My Morning Cup of Coffee

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

To My Morning Cup of Coffee,

You always remember a first love; the one that has a special place in your heart that you can never truly let go of. Though you may try as hard as you might to move on, it simply never happens. While I love my 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and sometimes even 5th cup of coffee, nothing quite replaces my 1st morning cup.

Let me count the ways in which I love thee. The way the aroma fills the air and wakes my senses after only a few hours of sleep. The way you go perfectly with any pastry, bagel, muffin, or are perfect on your own. The way you and soymilk mix so perfectly that I can’t imagine a better combination. The way you help coax me through my 10 a.m. Shakespeare class. I could go on forever, but in the interest of your vanity I will stop here.

You are perfect over ice or steaming hot and I love you both ways equally as much. Though I love you in your standard form, the complex manners in which a Starbucks barista crafts you into marvelous concoctions leaves me even more in love.

Though the cups of coffee that follow you are delicious, they simply do not have the same hold on me that you do. Without you, my day is off and I barely make it to my last class. Without them, I simply look forward to the next encounter you and I will have.

There are days when I am running late to class and consider cancelling our daily meeting, but then as I pass by the last place in which I can encounter you before class (the Chocolate Bar) my heart begins to ache with fear of missing you. Before I know it, I find myself 5 minutes late to class, but with you in my hand where you belong.

My love for you is at its peak on a Monday though it barely wanes by Friday. Just know that no orange juice or tea will ever replace you as my morning beverage of choice. For my love will always lie with you morning cup of coffee and of that you can be forever certain.

Love always,

Ashley and many other college students
