A Love Letter to My Assignment Book

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

My dearest Assignment Notebook,

I know it will never be possible to tell you how much I love you, but please accept this love letter as a token of my gratitude for all you have done for me. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you, and that isn’t a figurative statement. I actually would have failed out of Boston College by now without you as my constant companion.

Each day, you are the first thing I reach for in the morning. Your color-coded script reminds me of the otherwise neglected assignments, while your dramatic underlines draw my attention to meetings I don’t really want to go to anyways.

To quote the great Ashlee Simpson, “it’s as if you know me better than I’ve ever known myself.” You know where I am at every second of every day, which sounds a little sketchy, but that’s a message for another time. You know my darkest secrets, like those failed Introduction to Theatre quizzes. You take care of me during exam weeks, especially by reminding me to shower.

Whenever we are apart, I can’t stop thinking about you. There was that one time when I left you all alone and abandoned in Stokes. I spent my entire day searching for you, desperately trying to remember where I left you. When it finally dawned on me that we treated ourselves to a caramel apple cider at the Chocolate Bar, I ran as fast as I could to find you. Holding you in my arms once I found you tucked snuggly into the couch was the highlight of my day.

Assignment Notebook, I know I don’t always treat you well. Occasionally, I may spill some lukewarm coffee on you while running from class to class. Sometimes you fall off of my bed and spend the rest of the night with the scary dust bunnies. My constant reliance on you must be tiring. But even though I don’t say it enough, I love you. I really do.

Thank you, Assignment Notebook, for being my best friend, my support system, and my true love.
