The Hottest New Trilogy: “The Selection” Series

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Are you obsessed with The Hunger Games trilogy? Or, were you unable to put the Divergent series down? You probably remember that feeling of slight depression when you got to the end of the series, knowing there was nothing left for you to read. Fear not, Her Campus readers! Here is a new young adult series that will not disappoint.

The Selection series, by Kiera Cass, follows poor teenager America Singer and her life in a futuristic society. In the country of Illea, there is an ancient ceremony called the Selection, in which 35 girls from all different castes are chosen out of thousands to compete for the heart of young Prince Maxon. However, there is one big catch. Whomever is “selected” by Prince Maxon to become his wife will also take on the challenging role of becoming the Princess of Illea and future Queen – a role that is particularly difficult in the war torn country on the brink of another world war.

In the series, America reluctantly signs up for the Selection and is chosen to come to the castle and compete against 34 other girls for the love of Prince Maxon. However, as the series progresses, she finds that she is stuck in a hopeless love triangle with her hometown love, Aspen, and the mysterious Prince Maxon.

The first book of the series is called The Selection and the second is called The Elite.  The third installment of the series, titled The One, will be released on May 6th.  These are light and easy reads. However, once you pick the book up you will never be able to put it down until you are finished. It’s easy to say that we will all be looking forward to the publication of the third installment of the series in May!
