Healthy Snacks That Give You Energy & Keep You Going All Day Long

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

We are slowly but surely coming into spring and I don’t know about you guys, but I certainly let myself enjoy being lazy these past winter months. I like to joke and say that I am in hibernation like the bears, but seriously I could sleep 10 hours and still be tired! So, naturally, I’ve turned to the Internet to help me find a solution to my lack of energy.

Personally, I find comfort in food, so it only seems fitting to find some healthy and easy snacks that will help keep me going throughout the day. I am certainly not a fan of the crash that most energy drinks have after the initial kick start. Here’s what I’ve found:

1. Apple with a tablespoon of peanut butter

I am a true believer that peanut butter is a superfood. It’s delicious and the protein in the peanut butter provides long-lasting energy. This snack can also be made with bananas, but personally I’m partial to apples.

2. Crackers with a tablespoon of hummus

Being Persian, I have always grown up eating hummus. You might call it a primary food group in my household. Little did I know that this delicious little spread is exactly what my midmorning yawns needed to be driven away! It fills you up without putting you into “food coma” territory.

3. Popcorn

Believe it or not, this stuff isn’t just for the movies, though to really get the nutritional value you probably shouldn’t drown it in butter. Popcorn has a lot of fiber and it’s wholegrain. They even provide single serving bags so you can eat the whole thing and not feel guilty! I know that the next time I go to the movies I’ll, “get me some popcorn, it’s for my health.”

4. Yogurt and cereal or granola

Let’s not forget the Boston College classic: yogurt and granola! This tasty snack seems to be everyone’s “go-to staple” here on campus, so I can just say that we all know what we are doing! Keep on eating that yogurt!

I hope these snacks help get you guys out of hibernation. I know that I have gone to the gym for the first time in three weeks, so they are definitely working their magic on me! I cannot wait for spring and summer fun. I just want to be healthy and energetic enough to enjoy it all.
