Creative Halloween Costume Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

October is in full swing; leaves are turning and the air is a little chillier.  As our minds drift away from upcoming midterms and stray with excitement to the long-awaited “Halloweekend,” we’ve been contemplating some pretty great creative costume ideas.  We’ve all done the stereotypical nerd and clown costume, so how about we break the mold and show up to a Halloween party wearing something totally unique and awesome?  If you’re still in need of some costume inspiration, we’ve got you covered.  What are we going to dress up as?  It’s a toss up, but here are some ideas we’ve been throwing around:

1. Shark Week: My roommates and I did this one last year.  It was awesome.  It was comfortable.  Plus, we were warm and cozy in our grey hoodies, black leggings and rain boots during that awful (and random) snowstorm last Halloween.

2. Rock, Paper, Scissors: Such an iconic game, but I bet you’ve never seen this costume out and about.

3. Toy Story characters: There are so many awesome possibilities here. Andy, Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Slinky Dog, Mr. Potato Head, Bo Peep, Rex, Sarge and Bucket O’ Soldiers, Jessie, Hamm… The list goes on and on…

4. Tri-State Area: Grab three friends and dress up as preppy for Connecticut, guido for New Jersey, and Lady Liberty for New York.

5. Channel 4 News Team: Everyone loves Anchorman. Why not dress up as Ron Burgundy, Champ Kind, Brick Tamland and Brian Fantana?

6. The Real Housewives Series: Such a terribly awful (and addicting) reality TV show series that leaves room for endless Halloween costume opportunity.  Pick any character from Miami, Orange County, Beverly Hills, Atlanta, New York or New Jersey, dress up as incredibly gaudy and tacky as you possibly can, and you’re set.

7. Divorced Celeb Couple: K-Fed and Britney, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Jennifer Lopez and her 18 ex-husbands.  Again, the possibilities are endless.

The whole point of Halloween is to let off some steam and enjoy pretending to be someone else for a night (or three). So why not try something different?  Got costume ideas?  Share them with us!
