Last week, the Class of 2016 received a pretty frightening email discussing taking our “senior portraits” during the final days of this spring semester. I think I speak for the majority of my class when I say that this was a big “WTF” moment. Senior portraits, already? Weren’t we just baby freshmen? This email was a wakeup call and truly hit home the fact that we are finishing up our third year at BC with only one more to go. They say college flies by… they were not kidding.
If I could, I would spend 50 years at BC but unfortunately at some point, we have to move on and enter the “real world”. But we still have another year: another year to meet amazing people, to take different interesting courses as we complete our majors, to finally check off those bucket list items, and to make our final year at Boston College the best one yet. When I look back and realize what my fellow classmates and I have accomplished over the last three years, I am beyond impressed. But of course we can always accomplish so much more. We are a collection of scholars, of athletes, of artists, of actors, of scientists, of linguists, and of so many other things that make up one pretty incredible Class of 2016. I have no doubt about our success in the very near and distant future.
And so to my Class of 2016, do not panic about senior portraits, senior housing, the job search, or even the dreaded graduation. Embrace the time that we have left with its endless opportunities and possibilities. When it is time to leave this wonderful university, we will go knowing that we gave one hundred perent, and that we will always have a piece of our hearts at Boston College. We just need to keep in mind that this upcoming senior year is not the beginning of the end of journey, but it is instead the beginning of the rest of our lives.
