All the Single Ladies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

It’s about that time when single girls (and guys) start to wallow about their lack of a date for Valentine’s Day. And why shouldn’t they when there are so many cute couples holding hands and going on romantic dates, right? Wrong. I’ll tell you why you shouldn’t be wallowing—Valentine’s Day is better spent with friends anyway. Here are the main three reasons why:

1. You’re saving money. You don’t have to stress out or buy a significant other an expensive gift or pay for an expensive meal. Instead, you can save or even spend that money on yourself… which seems like the ideal Valentine’s Day gift, if you ask me.

2. You love your friends, too—if not more than a significant other. So why not show them your appreciation for them with a great day of bonding? It’s a good excuse to laugh about how single you are and share fun relationship (or lack thereof) stories. Look below for some fun things to do with your friends this V-Day!

3. Chances are—and I hate to be a cynic here—your best friends are more likely to be in your life longer than a significant other. Don’t get me wrong, dates and romance can be amazing with the right person, but building solid friendships is just as important. Don’t spend Valentine’s Day searching for a groom—search for your bridesmaids (or groomsmen) instead!

And here are just a few ideas of how you and your best friends can spend V-Day together:

  • Go on a friend date to the movies! You’ll run into a lot of interesting couples, and you can still have the “romance” while spending time with the people you care most about! Here are some great movies that will be out for Valentine’s Day: That Awkward Moment, Endless Love, The LEGO Movie (but actually, it looks hilarious), and Love Is In The Air.
  • Finish an entire box of chocolates together. There really is no greater feat on Valentine’s Day!
  • Give each other funny (and meaningful) cards to express your appreciation and love for your friends in a way you may not be able to the rest of the year.
  • Throw a single-ladies (or single-guys) party like Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel do in the movie Valentine’s Day. Although be wary of a piñata in a dorm room…
  • Volunteer! Although it may seem unorthodox, volunteering anywhere in Boston will get your mind off of your single-ness, and you will feel good the rest of the weekend after giving back to your community and spending quality time with your friends!

Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your friends!
