5 Fall Fashion Essentials Every Girl Should Own

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

It’s that time of year where we pack up our crop tops and exchange our flip flops for booties and knee highs. Leaves are changing colors and the pumpkin spice lattes are back. Fall is one of my favorite seasons. Between salted caramel mocha frappucinos and warm color aesthetics, my favorite part of the season is being fashionably snug every day. With that being said, here is a list of my go-to fall fashion essentials:

1.    Plaid, plaid, plaid

I’ve recently become a big fan of plaid. The structure and the fluidity of colors makes it a staple when you want to dress up a basic t-shirt or just want an extra pop of color. A balance between keeping you warm and cool, plaid shirts are the easiest ways for me to look like I made an effort for the day.

2. Cardigans

Alongside plaid shirts are cardigans. From a simple color to multiple arrays, they are the sweaters without the buttons that give freedom to move while staying warm entirely. They can be added to a dress, a pair of jeans, or even a skirt and can transform your look from every day to business casual instantly. From past experience and my constant desire to be as warm as possible, I can say that cardigans are definite lifesavers

3. Oversized Sweaters

To be cozy and cute at the same time? Yes, please! Oversized sweaters give you the cozy texture of a blanket with a modern flair perfect for everyday wear. These are number one reasons why fall became my favorite season; effortless style with the comforts of home included. Paired with boots, my favorite jeans, and a chai tea latte and I’m set all day. I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that I AM OBSESSED!

4. Chunky Scarves

Chunky scarves are the blankets for your neck. It’s guaranteed warmth no matter what kind of outfit you have and will match most anything if you have one essential color. The best part is the these can be styled a variety of ways, from a traditional scarf to a shawl and even a poncho. Honestly, the chunkier, the better!

5. Knit Dresses

I’ll be honest; sometimes I don’t want to wear my jeans all the time. There are other ways to look cute, and knit dresses are one of them. The textured patterns add character to the overall look and are great for when I’m in a rush and need to dress quickly. Overall, they are the perfect ways to be comfortably cool all day long and are staples in anyone’s closet.

As the season gets colder and we kiss the sweet summer goodbye, the time to look fashionably fresh stays year round. Whether it’s going to class or strolling through Boston Common, there’s a fall outfit for everything. What I love especially about fall is the simplicity of it all. The warm tones, the knit stitchings, the return of boots, the warm chai latte; each item can be put together to make something as beautiful as the person wearing it. For any occasion, there is only one accessory that is the most important to complete the look: a beautiful, dazzling smile.

Hey! My name is Olivia and I'm a college junior studying Linguistics and American Studies. I’ve been writing since I was young and it gave me so much joy at the time. But once I started college, I traded my pen and paper for a Macbook and wrote for school instead. But some part of me still wanted to write for myself, and I was finally motivated to do so in January 2017. Aside from writing,  I'm a Christian who loves reading, cooking, shopping, playing video games, and sleeping (especially). I'm very much into health and fitness (while at the same time a sweet tooth) and I'm always researching on how to life hack everything. If I'm not studying in the library like a good student should, I'm hanging out with friends or relaxing in my room after a long day.
