Career Day Creates Success and Here’s Why You NEED to Go

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Baylor chapter.

September 22, 2021. The big day. It’s not your graduation. It’s not your wedding. It’s not your first-born’s birth. It is the beginning of your future, though. Career Day is the one opportunity Baylor students have each semester to connect with employers, find internships and explore job opportunities.

As a biology student, I never thought I needed to go to Career Day. In my mind, it was just for business majors with a few employers geared toward finance, marketing, and communication degrees. So…not for me. Boy, was I wrong. As a marketing intern in Baylor’s Career Center, I have learned a lot about how Career Day can be beneficial to me and every student, no matter the major. Let me tell you why you need to register ASAP (like, within the next day and a half).

There will be countless employers present at Career Day completely ready to chat with students. Even if you cannot find a single company you’re interested in (which seems unlikely), you can find networking opportunities at every single table. You never know who the people you meet will know. You never know the doors that can be opened by shaking a few hands and making a good impression. Networking never stops!

This is also a great time to get out there and practice your professional skills. At Career Day, you will need to have a solid resume, elevator pitch, confidence and professionalism. Even if you aren’t there to get a full-time job or internship, you can practice the skills you’ll eventually need during interviews and meetings.

Finally, you can GET A JOB OR INTERNSHIP! You came to college to find a good job. Career Day is an event literally designed to help students get their foot in the door of amazing companies. There are employers in business, pharmaceuticals, marketing, accounting, architecture, computer science, and so much more. Career Day really is meant for anyone with any background and any major. Career Day is for YOU. It can help you find your dream job or internship and get a real chance at securing it after graduation. It can land you the internship you’ve been waiting for.

Right now is the time recruiters are looking at students all over the country to find their best fit. This is the top recruitment time for the summer of 2022. So, if you are looking to further your career goals, you NEED to go to Career Day. It’s as easy as registering on Handshake and showing up.

Career Day will be held on September 22, 2021 in Foster from 3-7 PM. You are expected to dress professionally, have a perfected resume, and be ready to pitch yourself to recruiters. I know I’ll be there to work on my professional skills and network, and I hope to see you there. Don’t forget, your career success starts now!
