Step Away From the Cell Phone!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Auburn chapter.

We all have that ONE guy. The one who we have so much history with it’s not even funny. A certain song comes on the radio in the car and guess what? His face pops up, and you find it hard to think about anything but him. Before you know it you’re thinking about a certain memory and then the dreaded question arises: “Hmm…I wonder if I should text him?” We try and convince ourselves that it will be “just to see how he’s doing. Just a friendly hello.” But of course that is not our motive at all. No matter how badly we don’t want to admit it, he is the guy we just cannot seem to get over.

This boy drove you up the wall; made you cry, left you hanging, and probably moved on way faster than you did after the relationship ended. You may not have even actually had a “relationship” with said boy.  You might have been just talking, or maybe even booty call buddies (which if that’s the case, take a trip into the past and DTR). But still, he’s there. On your mind, making you question whether or not you are pretty enough, or if the fact that you wouldn’t kiss him on the first time you hung out was a turn off, or if maybe he thought you were super weird and totally not dateable.

As I’ve learned from a very recent and very awkward experience, don’t text him. Delete his number, unfollow him on Twitter, and if necessary you should probably never listen to that one song EVER again. Why? Because this boy isn’t into you any more and you should be so very thankful. The fact that you had to question yourself because he was a jerk shows that he is not worth your time. I know it’s hard to get over someone and it’s a long process, but jump on the happy train right now, because once you do get over him your life will be so much better. There is someone out there who isn’t going to make you feel terrible about yourself or unapologetically make you cry, and you’ll make great memories with him that will outweigh those of the last guy by a ton.
