The Mash-Up to End All Mash-Ups: Pop Danthology 2012

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Auburn chapter.

2012 is finally coming to a close. Were you Katy Perry’s biggest fan this year or were you more of a Maroon 5 girl? Maybe you still have “Some Nights” by fun. on repeat or can’t get Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” out of your head. You might find it difficult to choose your favorite pop song from 2012. Thanks to mash-up master Daniel Kim, you don’t have to!

Kim has released what he calls “Pop Danthology 2012,” an eight minute long mash-up that transitions from one hit song to another. It starts with Adam Levine belting out the extremely popular “Payphone,” with a bit of a twist. The song is set to Ellie Goulding’s music from “Lights” and quickly transitions to The Wanted’s “Glad You Came.” The entire mash-up flows as it features songs from 2012 that are still on the radio and even gems from the beginning of the year you may have forgotten.

Other artists that are featured are One Direction, Cher Lloyd and Justin Bieber. Kim is no stranger to the mash-up scene and has done videos for the hit songs of 2010 and 2011. However, this year’s video seems most popular as it has gotten more than 6 million views in less than a week!

The video features more than 50 songs and even includes clips from the music videos. You can check out more of Daniel Kim’s projects on his Facebook, which features an explanation on how he picked the music and an mp3 download link for the mash-up that is perfect for your New Year’s Eve party playlist or just dancing around in your room (which I am completely guilty of doing).

Taylor loves The Beatles, River Phoenix movies and vinyl records. She can usually be found dancing at a concert or discussing how she was born in the wrong decade.
